Bill Quinlan is a lifelong Chicagoan who has devoted his career to making his hometown stronger, fairer, and more resilient—both in the courtroom and across the community. A seasoned attorney specializing in complex litigation with experience in private practice and public service, Bill has represented everyone from individual clients as pro bono counsel to Fortune 500 companies navigating high-stakes legal challenges. He has counseled government agencies and worked closely with civic, corporate, and political leaders to solve some of Chicago’s most complex legal and governance issues.
Most recently, Bill played a pivotal role in stabilizing leadership at Chicago Public Schools during one of its most turbulent periods. Amid an unprecedented budget crisis and intense political pressure, he stood firm against efforts to push through an unsustainable teachers’ contract and risky financial deals. His approach—steady, strategic, and focused on long-term outcomes—embodies his broader philosophy: put the interests of everyday Chicagoans first, and never shy away from tough decisions.
Outside the courtroom, Bill has long been a leader in Chicago’s civic life. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board at Lawrence Hall, a social service agency supporting children and youth who have experienced trauma, including victims of gun violence and those unable to safely remain in their homes. Under his leadership, Lawrence Hall continues to deliver housing, education, and therapeutic care, and remains the only agency in Chicago with a dedicated residential program for LGBTQ+ youth.
Bill has also served as Chair of the Local School Council at Lincoln Park High School, one of Chicago’s most diverse and academically rigorous public high schools. In this role, he worked to strengthen a school that brings together students of all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds—reflecting the full breadth of Chicago’s promise and challenge. His work demonstrates a deep and personal commitment to public education and to expanding opportunity for every child, no matter their background or zip code.
A proud graduate of Chicago schools and the parent of children who have attended both CPS and local Catholic schools, Bill brings firsthand understanding of the challenges—and potential—of Chicago’s education system. He founded Leading a Better Chicago because he believes that with bold ideas, capable leadership, and the courage to break from the status quo, the city’s best days are still ahead for the next generation.
His vision is clear: a stronger, safer, more equitable Chicago—not just for today, but for generations to come.
